Working Pattern:

Periodic company offshore rotations, with reasonable flexibility for mobilisation, handover, training and operational requirements. WFH for all other occasions.

Description:

This brand new Offshore Manager will become an immediate permanent member of the company’s operational management team and its senior project representative onboard the drillship/assets.
This hire will become responsible for the safe, efficient and commercially effective delivery of offshore geoscience and geotechnical investigation projects and provide long-term leadership, operational continuity and consistent application of company standards across vessels, projects and operating regions.
The Offshore Manager will lead the project, drilling, geotechnical, geoscience and operational teams onboard. The post-holder ensures that the work will be completed safely and in accordance with the project scope, client requirements, company policies, vessel procedures, applicable legislation and recognised industry standards. The Offshore Manager will work closely with the Vessel Master, who retains overriding authority for marine safety, navigation, security and operation of the vessel.
This role will have primary responsibility for all client interface, project execution and the coordination of drilling, sampling, in-situ testing, logging and associated technical operations. Our client have deliberately set this out to be a staff role appointment to ensure that the role also contributes to the continued development of the company’s people, procedures, equipment, safety culture and operational capability – but also, so that this person can benefit from being involved in all of the client conversations and communication as well.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead safe and efficient offshore project delivery.
Coordinate drilling, sampling, coring, in-situ testing, logging and survey activities.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate will possess:
Extensive experience in Naval Architecture within a leading engineering consultancy, marine engineering, offshore, defence, or commercial shipping environment.

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate is likely to be recognised within the industry as a subject matter expert and thought leader in offshore geophysics, with a proven track record of influencing major offshore developments and providing technical leadership on complex projects.

Extensive experience within offshore and marine geophysics.
A strong reputation for technical excellence and sound professional judgement.
Demonstrable experience acting as a technical authority, discipline lead, technical director or principal consultant within an offshore environment.
Deep expertise in offshore site characterisation and geophysical interpretation.
Significant experience with geophysical survey techniques, including:
Multibeam bathymetry
Side scan sonar
Sub-bottom profiling
Magnetometer surveys
Ultra-high-resolution seismic methods
Geohazard identification and assessment
A comprehensive understanding of marine ground model development and the integration of geophysical and geotechnical datasets.
Experience reviewing and assuring high-value technical deliverables.
The ability to communicate complex technical matters effectively to clients, regulators, project teams and executive stakeholders.

Desirable Experience:

A strong pedigree within the Offshore Wind sector, including development, construction or operational phases.
Experience supporting Oil & Gas exploration, development or decommissioning projects.
Exposure to subsea cable, interconnector, pipeline or marine infrastructure developments.
Knowledge of carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen, offshore renewables or other energy transition projects.
Chartered status or equivalent professional accreditation.
A recognised profile within the offshore geoscience community through publications, conference presentations, industry committees or technical leadership activities.

Qualifications:

Degree in Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences, Marine Geoscience or a related discipline.
MSc or PhD desirable but not essential.

Our client (an international marine business) are seeking a Principal Mariner to undertake and manage a range of marine assurance, consultancy and advisory services across multiple clients and projects.
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of mariner-based work, allocation of resources, maintenance of client relationships, business and product development, and the preparation of tenders. The role will involve representing our client at on-site and offshore locations. Travel will be required, sometimes at short notice, to attend surveys, inspections and client meetings – but this will be managed by this person.

Key Responsibilities:

Project manage and deliver high-quality marine consultancy services
Coordinate project work and vessel attendances for marine assurance activities
Take responsibility for the financial performance of UK mariner-based projects
Provide technical leadership and advice to clients and colleagues
Deliver marine assurance, vessel inspection, advisory and consultancy projects
Maintain and develop a pool of independent mariners in line with competence and capacity requirements
Assess the experience and competence of potential candidates to ensure high-quality service delivery
Contribute to the development of new services and initiatives to improve capability and competitiveness
Support internal training and knowledge sharing
Undertake business development activities, including:
Identifying new opportunities
Building and maintaining client and stakeholder relationships
Preparing marketing materials and tender submissions
Support external profile-raising activities, including social media, articles and industry presentations
Seek and record client feedback and identify opportunities for safety improvements

Skills Knowledge & Experience:

Certified Master Mariner (Unlimited STCW II/2 CoC)
Sea-going experience as Master or Chief Officer in offshore oil, gas and/or renewable energy sectors

Heavy lift
Dynamic positioning (DP)
Anchor handling
Rig moves
Towage
Supply operations
Up-to-date knowledge of marine regulations, industry standards, practices and guidelines
Ability to produce clear, concise, high-quality technical reports and presentations
Excellent communication and client-facing skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
Right to live and work in the United Kingdom
Medically fit for offshore assignments
